Will we have a white Christmas?

If this snow sticks around, we will.

Snow is falling around much of the state today, but the major snow fell on the norther lower and upper peninsulas yesterday and overnight.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports ten inches fell around the northwest part of the state. The storm also brought high winds leading to power outages:

Thousands of residents in Leelanau County and Benzie County are currently out of power. Consumer’s Energy reported 8,588 outages in Benzie County this morning because of  downed high voltage lines and 3,358 outages in Leelanau County. Grand Traverse County fared better with 1,833 outages.

Snow is falling in the southern part of the state, but we won't see the significant accumulations the northern part of the state experienced.

One to three inches are expected in southeastern parts of the state.

Mark Torregross of MLive says this is all the snow well get before next Tuesday.

What you see on the ground at sunset tonight is all you get for Christmas. You'll have to hope it stays. Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will inch above freezing into the lower 30s for a few hours both days. It doesn't look right now like any additional snowstorms will come our way by Christmas. There could be just a few of what I call "decorative flurries" in the air on Christmas Day.
