Lately though, he’s busy organizing a Michigan memorial procession for the victims of the Connecticut school shooting.</p> Fri, 21 Dec 2012 21:58:51 +0000 Kate Wells 10501 at A Michigan memorial procession for Sandy Hook 'Student revolt' threat affecting schools in Genesee County <p>About a half dozen Genesee County school districts are dealing with a bizarre internet rumor of plans for an armed ‘student revolt’ this Friday.</p><p></p><p>Police are investigating the alleged revolt, in the wake of last week’s school massacre in Connecticut and the Mayan ‘end of the world’ prophecy.</p><p></p><p>Grand Blanc schools Superintendent Norm Abdella says messages have been swirling on social media sites that students were planning to bring weapons to schools in Genesee County on Friday.</p><p></p> Wed, 19 Dec 2012 18:33:59 +0000 Steve Carmody 10444 at Lansing raising money for gun buy back program <p></p><p>Last week’s school shooting in Connecticut is inspiring the city of Lansing to hold a second gun buy-back program.</p><p></p><p>The capitol city’s last gun buy-back program collected nearly a hundred firearms in August. &nbsp;People who turned in hand guns or semi-automatic weapons got gift cards in exchange.</p><p></p><p>The city hopes to collect ten thousand dollars in private donations for its next program.</p><p></p><p>Lansing mayor Virg Bernero says the initiative will get guns off the street and help keep the community safe.</p><p></p> Wed, 19 Dec 2012 03:39:43 +0000 Steve Carmody 10435 at Snyder faces choice on gun bills <p>Governor Rick Snyder must decide whether to approve or veto legislation that would allow concealed pistols in churches, day care centers, and public schools.</p><p>The governor said the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings will play a role in his thinking.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>The legislation would allow enhanced concealed pistol privileges for license holders who get additional training and range practice.</p><p>The governor faces growing pressure on the bills from both sides on the question of gun control.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>The governor said on Detroit Public Television the Connecticut school killings are on his mind as he ponders his decision.</p><p>“It does impact—you can’t have it not impact you and my thoughts and prayers go with everyone in Connecticut. I know that we all share that view,” Snyder said.</p><p>But the governor said he has not made up his mind yet. His administration was officially neutral on the gun bills when they were voted on by the Legislature.</p><p>He will have 14 days to decide once the bills are formally presented to him.
