Zoe Clark is a producer as well as the co-host of the Friday afternoon segment It's Just Politics on Michigan Radio. She produces Morning Edition, Jack Lessenberry’s daily essays, and Michigan Radio’s local interviews, including those by All Things Considered host Jennifer White and Morning Edition host Christina Shockley. She is also a substitute on-air host. She has been at Michigan Radio since 2006.

Zoe began her collegiate studies at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She holds degrees in Communication Studies and Political Science from the University of Michigan and lives in Ann Arbor, where she was born and raised.

With 20 days to go until Thanksgiving, maybe you're looking to buy airline tickets for holiday travel? Well, if you're flying out of Detroit Metro Airport expect to pay-up. The Detroit Free Press checked round-trip routes to and from Detroit and found:

Fares have risen in the last two weeks. Nationally, holiday fares are about 4% higher than last year depending on the route and date.

Snyder won't be moving into Governor's mansion... yet

Governor-elect Rick Snyder

It's being reported that Governor-elect Rick Snyder will not be moving into the Governor's mansion in Lansing anytime soon.  Instead, Snyder will live in his Ann Arbor-area home and commute to the state Capitol.  Snyder's youngest daughter, Kelsey, is still finishing high school in the area and Snyder doesn't want to move until she graduates.

Whitmer to lead state Senate Dems

State Senator Gretchen Whitmer

Democratic state Senator Gretchen Whitmer will be Michigan's next Senate Minority Leader. Whitmer's fellow Democratic Senators elected her to the position yesterday. She'll be the first woman to hold the job. She became a state Senator in 2006.  Before that, she was as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2000 to 2006.

Sec of State office sees 3rd consecutive GOP woman in charge

Secretary of State-elect Ruth Johnson

With Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson's win last night, she becomes the third consecutive Republican woman  to hold the Michigan Secretary of State's office. 

Johnson beat her Democratic challenger Jocelyn Benson, an author and law professor at Wayne State University.

MI's Congressional delegation is full of new faces

Michigan's congressional delegation is getting a makeover. One-third of its 15 members will be new.  Here's a rundown of who is in... and who is out:

1st District

Republican Dan Benishek won the race to succeed veteran Democrat Bart Stupak in Michigan’s 1st District which covers all of the Upper Peninsula and parts of the northern Lower Peninsula. Stupak announced in April that he would not seek a 10th term in Washington. Benishek was a Tea-Party favorite and was endorsed by former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

Governor

Republican Rick Snyder beat Democrat Virg Bernero in the race for governor. Snyder says the state’s economy and government have been broken for too many years and called for inclusiveness rather than divisiveness.

Michigan Legislature

It appears that Republicans have taken control of the Michigan House and added to their majority in the state Senate.  That means the GOP now controls both houses of the Michigan legislature and the Governor’s office.

Snyder to meet with Govenror Granholm

We're getting word this morning that Governor-elect Rick Snyder will meet with Govenror Granholm this morning in Detroit.  The Associated Press reports:

Snyder is expected to announce details of his transition team during an 11 a.m. news conference at the Book Cadillac hotel, then spend the rest of the day meeting with advisers and staff.

Snyder faces a projected $1.4 billion dollar deficit when he takes office on January 1st, and a state jobless rate of 13%.

Election Day

Michigan voters will elect a new Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General and two state Supreme Court justices today. All of the state's fifteen U.S. Congressional seats are also up for election. State elections officials estimate a little less than 4 million of the state's 7 million registered voters will cast ballots. At least 575,000 people have already voted absentee.

It's Election Day

It's Election Day. Voters in Michigan are set to choose many new candidates for top offices.

Voters are set to choose a new governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state and attorney general. Voters will also choose two state Supreme Court nominees. All of Michigan's fifteen U.S. Congressional seats are also up for election, as well as seats for the state Senate and House.

Countdown to Election Day

New Poll Shows Snyder Continues to Lead Bernero

With four days to go before Election Day, a new EPIC-MRA poll shows continued support for Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder over his opponent Democrat Virg Bernero.  The poll shows 55% of those surveyed support Snyder to Bernero's 37%.  4% were undecided.
