That’s what Dave Cookethinks about President Trump’s proposed budget cuts to EPA funding. Cooke is senior vehicles analyst in the Clean Vehicles Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists.
The White House wants to basically zero out the budget for the EPA’s Vehicle Lab in Ann Arbor. But what is the Vehicle Lab, and why should we all care how it’s funded?
Cooke joined Stateside today to explain.
"On the one hand, it’s the watchdog for every vehicle that is sold to American consumers, so it’s responsible for certifying that the fuel economy matches the label so consumers know what they’re getting,” he said. “And it’s responsible for insuring that each vehicle meets appropriate pollution controls. On the other hand, it's also is responsible for a lot of the fundamental research in the automotive space…”
