Deadline day for Lansing's old Red Cedar golf course

Developers have until late this afternoon to submit their ideas for what to do with a former Lansing city golf course.  

The twelve acres of the old Red Cedar golf course rests on the border of Lansing and East Lansing.

Lansing city voters gave the green light last year to putting the property on the market.

A city spokesman declined to say if the city has received any proposals yet for the property.

The proposals will give a general description of the developers’ ideas for the land. It’s expected the would-be developers will propose a mix of residential and retail space.

The mayor’s office hopes to select a potential developer and reach a development agreement by the end of the month. It’s expected the Lansing city council could vote on the plan by sometime in September.

If in the end a deal can not be reached, the process may be reopened.

The city hopes to net between three to $5 million from the sale of the property.
