Candidates running to unseat Congressman Justin Amash will debate Monday night in Grand Rapids.
Amashleft the Republican Party earlier this year, after calling for an impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump.
Amash is running for re-election as an independent, and several people are now running against him.
Monday’s debate will feature five Republican challengers: Lynn Afendoulis, Joel Langlois, Tom Norton, Peter Meijer and Andrew Jackson Willis (a sixth candidate, Joe Farrington was later confirmed and joined the debate).
The debate is sponsored by the Trump 2020 Grassroots Leadership of Kent County and Teens for Trump GR.
The debate begins at Noto’s Old World Italian Dining at 7 p.m.
Two Democrats are also running for the seat: Hillary Scholten and Nick Colvin. A third Democrat who had been seeking the seat, Emily Rafi, announced on Facebook last week that she’s leaving the party.
