Detroit Symphony offers $20 tickets to city residents

Good news for classical music fans who live in Detroit. Detroit residents can now buy tickets to any Detroit Symphony Orchestra classical or jazz concert this season for $20.

Paul Hogle is executive vice president of the DSO. He says the new Detroit Rush Initiative is one way the orchestra can "connect more deeply" to the city. 

"We read every day with enthusiasm the articles about people moving to town, businesses relocating. These are all very good things. And we thought this is the way we can play our part," says Hogle.

Amanda Paige is a big fan of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and classical music in general. She lives in Detroit and thinks the new ticket initiative is "fantastic."

"That’s a totally doable amount of money," says Paige. "Especially if you can buy two, then that’s a date night right there."

The discounted tickets are part of the DSO’s ongoing effort to lure more people to Orchestra Hall. The symphony already cut back its regular ticket prices this season - in some cases more than 50 percent.
