Classical music lovers can now watch the Detroit Symphony Orchestra perform as often as they want, from the comfort of their living rooms.
The DSO is launching an online, on-demand archiveof about 100 works, originally performed on its "Live from Orchestra Hall" series.
Performances run the gamut of classical music tastes, including works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Gershwin.
Content will be updated throughout the year.
Eric Woodhams, the DSO's director of digital initiatives, says strategically placed cameras give viewers a unique perspective.
"You can see up close the technique that they use in their fingers when they play the piano," he said. "You can almost breathe with the soloists, it's that personal of an experience."
The archive is available to anyone who donates at least $50 to the orchestra's annual fund.
Woodhams says the DSO is working on a grant to make it for free for a network of teachers and students nationwide.
