FACT CHECK & ANALYSIS: The final presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

NPR.org

Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton faced off in the final presidential debate on Wednesday night at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The debate followed the same format as the first presidential debate.

It was divided into six segments of around 15 minutes each on major topics selected by the moderator, Chris Wallace of Fox News.

Wallace announcedthose topics last week. They were:

  • Debt and entitlements
  • Immigration
  • Economy
  • Supreme Court
  • Foreign hot spots
  • Fitness to be President

Wallace opened each segment with a question, after which each candidate had two minutes to respond. Candidates then had the opportunity to respond to each other. The moderator used the balance of the time in the segment for a deeper discussion of the topic.
NPR's politics team, with help from reporters and editors who cover national security, immigration, business, foreign policy and more, live annotated the debate. Portions of the debate with added analysis are highlighted below, followed by context and fact checking from NPR reporters and editors.
