It's all about dance, creativity, and art: the Detroit Dance City Festival returns this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Performances, workshops, networking are offered at six different locations for dancers of all ages. The goal of the third annual event is to bring local, national and international dancers and choreographers together in Detroit.
Among the offerings at the festival, there is a Friday Funk Night at Eastern Market (Shed 3), which the festival website describes as a celebration of "dance, funk and art." There is also a Dance Film Festival that focuses on the blending of film and dance. There are also numerous performance events such as daily afternoon performances on the Summer Stage at Harmonie Park, with a special closing performance at Campus Martius Park on Saturday.
Festival director Joori Jung joined Stateside along with dancer Bree Birr to talk about what to expect at this year's festival.
