U.S. Govt Printing Office

ALBEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Former three-term Democratic Michigan U.S. Rep. Don Albosta has died. He was 89.

C.M. Humpula Funeral Home says Albosta died Thursday.

The Saginaw-born Albosta served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a farmer. He was elected to the Saginaw County Commission and Michigan House before serving in Congress in 1979-1984.

Albosta lost his re-election bid to Republican Bill Schuette in 1984.

Now Michigan's attorney general, Schuette calls Albosta "a tenacious public servant who worked hard for the citizens of the 10th District and the state the Michigan."

Albosta's survivors include wife Dorothy, sister Ruth Sklebeck, daughter Christine White, son Paul Albosta and two granddaughters.

According to the funeral home, Albosta was a director of the Sugar Beet Growers Association and an associate director of the Saginaw County Soil Conservation District. It said he served on the State Advisory Board of the FHA and was president of Prairie Farms Cooperative for 20 years. He developed and owned Misteguay Creek Farms.
