The daughter of longtime Michigan Democratic political figure and ex-state Sen. Gilda Jacobs has died in the crash of an Amtrak train in Philadelphia.
Thirty-nine-year-old Rachel Jacobs earlier was reported missing after Tuesday evening's crash.
Her family says in a statement that Jacobs "was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend" who was devoted to family and social justice.
Rachel Jacobs grew up in suburban Detroit and was chief executive of Philadelphia-based ApprenNet, an education startup. She lived in New York with her husband and two-year-old son.
Gilda Jacobs is chief executive of the Michigan League for Public Policy, which first confirmed her daughter's death.
ApprenNet's website says Rachel Jacobs has a BA from Swarthmore College and MBA from Columbia University and worked at McGraw-Hill and Ascend Learning.
