There’s one less candidate running for mayor of Flint.
A post overnight on the “Giggles the Pig for Flint Mayor” Facebook page announced the four-legged candidate was dropping out of the race for Flint mayor.
Giggles entered the race after a mistake in the city clerk’s office meant none of the two-legged candidates qualified for the August Primary.
But state officials fixed the mistake allowing four candidates to appear on the ballot.
Giggles handlers say their write-in campaign is being ended because the race is “No longer an even playing field”.
Attorney Michael Ewing started the "Giggles the Pig for Flint Mayor" campaign after learning that a mix-up by Flint's clerk threatened to keep candidates' names off the ballot.
Ewing confirms to The Associated Press in an email Wednesday that with the write-in effort off, a "Giggles the Pig for Flint Mayor" Facebook page now will be used in part to share good news stories about Flint.
Ewing had said Giggles' candidacy sought to draw more attention to the mayoral race, better educate voters about their choices and encourage residents to demand more of elected officials.
Giggles’ candidacy drew many fans online. But other candidates for mayor were less amused.
