Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump face off in their first presidential debate tonight.

One Michigan group hopes to hear the candidates discuss “family economic” issues.

Tomicka Robinson is with the group Mothering Justice.

She says it’s important to Michigan mothers for Trump and Clinton to put issues like paid sick leave and affordable child care on par with other major national issues.

“Our voices need to be heard, and the thing that continues to come up is affordable child care and earned paid sick time,” says Robinson.

Both candidates have outlined child care plans, though questions have been raised about how effective or economically plausible they would be.

Michigan Radio will carry NPR’s live coverage of the presidential debate this evening.
