How many tornadoes touched down in Michigan overnight?

Jun 23, 2015

The answer is still forthcoming. So far, the National Weather Service has confirmed one EF-1 tornado that touched down in Portland, Michigan yesterday. More than 50 homes were damaged in Portland and there were no reports of serious injuries.

We're seeing a lot of other reports of damage due to the storms, but determining whether those were caused by a tornado takes some ground truth.

The National Weather Service says teams are out in the field today surveying damage that occurred overnight and will give us a report later today. They're looking at the pattern of the damage to make their determination.

Here's more on how they make that determination.

Mark Toregressa over at MLive says they're looking into seven other possible tornadoes:

10:03 p.m. - Birch Run and Millington...

10:08 p.m. - Five miles north-northwest of Decker...

10:34 p.m. - Northeast of Deckerville...

12:30 a.m.(estimated) - Northern Kalamazoo County near Richland Township...

1:00 a.m. - Eastern Jackson County At M-106 between Meridian and Coon Hill Road...

1:33 a.m. - Three miles north-northeast of Manchester....

1:34 a.m. - Five miles east-northeast of Manchester....
