Large Spanish brewery is new minority partner of Grand Rapids' Founders Brewing Co.

Founders Brewing Company

A 125-year-old, seventh-generation, family-owned Spanish brewery, Mahou San Miguel, has bought a 30% interest in Founders Brewing Co., based in Grand Rapids.

Founders CEO Mike Stevens said the craft brewery has succeeded in its search for a long-term partner that will allow it to thrive for many generations.

Stevens said the two companies share the same legacy values. "It's a great partnership that ultimately ensures the legacy of our brand and the creation of a multi-generational brewery," said Stevens.

Stevens said Mahou is Spain's largest and oldest brewery and its global distribution system will help Founders become an internationally recognized brand and "bring Founders to beer drinkers in foreign markets."

Stevens said Founders is committed to growing in Grand Rapids and to building its craft beer brand around the globe.
