You hear about these mix ups from time to time.
Satori Shakoor, host of the Ann Arbor and Detroit Moth Story Slams, tells a funny story about being listed as a male on her driver's license. But this story goes beyond a gender.
Carol Tilley of Brownstown Township found out this year out that the Social Security Administration listed her as dead.
Alex Aleshuff of the Monroe News reports the mistake came after Tilley's husband passed away. Her Medicare coverage was canceled, her dental insurance didn't go through, and she couldn't vote in the August primary.
The mistake was eventually corrected.
More from the Monroe News:
For a time, Mrs. Tilley had to carry her birth certificate, marriage license and husband’s death certificate to prove she was still alive … “My life isn’t normal anymore,” she said. “Every time I turn around, I’m dead.”?With the worst behind her, Mrs. Tilley feels a little more comfortable making light of the situation with her friends and family. “My friends told me not to worry about paying taxes … or that I can get away with anything,” she said. “But there are no benefits to being dead.”
