Lauren Duski first song at Gaylord's Alpenfest at age 7, this year she performs as a headliner.

You just never know when life has a great big surprise waiting just around the corner for you.

Just when you think it’s time to put your music dream on the shelf and go to dental school, you get a call from producers of NBC's The Voice, asking you to audition for the TV singing competition.

That’s how Gaylord’s Lauren Duski wound up with Blake Shelton as her mentor, ultimately landing in second place on the 2017 season of The Voice and getting her big break.

Duski spoke with Stateside’s Cynthia Canty to discuss her return to Michigan and the launch of her new debut single.

On Thursday, July 12, Duski will be performing at The Intersection in Grand Rapids. She'll be at the Alpenfest in her hometown of Gaylord on Friday 13.

Duski first sang at Alpenfest at just seven years old, after climbing onto the stage.

“It’s all really coming full circle to be back on that stage this week, sharing my new music with my hometown in Northern Michigan,” Duski said. “It’s such a treat for me to think back to that performance at seven years old when little Lauren was just fearless and had no idea what she’s doing, but she loved country music.”
