Week after week, month after month, year after year, John U. Bacon has brought his take on sports to us here on Stateside.
Talking sports with Bacon has revealed his straight-talking gift of cutting to the heart of the story, of making people understand the struggles, stumbles, and triumphs of those people on the field, the court, and the rink.
Bacon's latest book is a collection of his stories and essays written between 1992 and 2018. They cover a dozen different sports for a dozen different media outlets – from The Detroit News to the Ann Arbor News to right here on Michigan Radio. The book's title is The Best of Bacon: Select Cuts from John U. Bacon.
Listen above to hear Bacon talk about moments with Ernie Harwell, his time as a women’s club hockey team coach, and advice he got from Michael Jordan.
Listen above for the entire conversation.
John U. Bacon will be at the Ann Arbor District Library for an event brought to you by Literati Bookstore on Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m.
