In the future, Michiganders behind in their rent payments may get an email eviction notice.

Currently, initial eviction notices are sent by first class mail. But a billbefore the state House Judiciary committee would allow landlords use electronic mail instead.

Jeff Scott is with the Detroit Metropolitan Apartment Association.  He says most communication landlords have with renters comes via email.

Scott says renters often move out before the eviction notice comes and often fail to forward their mail.

He says an email eviction is more likely to reach them.
