Michigan legislators prepare to impeach Dino Bucci

Dino Bucci
Macomb Township Board of Trustees

Michigan Representatives Steve Marino and Jeff Yaroch have begun the process of impeaching Macomb Township Trustee Dino Bucci because of his absence from his duties for the past nine months.

Bucci was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2017 on 18 counts of conspiracy, bribery, embezzlement, extortion, mail fraud, and money laundering. Those charges were in connection with public contracts for Macomb Township and the Macomb County Department of Public Works.

According to Yaroch, an appeal to Governor Rick Snyder to remove Bucci from office yielded no response.

"Trustee Bucci is entitled to due process on his indictments, and that is presently being carried out through the federal court system. But he has a duty regardless to attend his meetings," says Yaroch. According to Yaroch, he is still receiving his salary of $9,000 a year as a trustee and should be removed for neglecting his duties.

Marino and Yaroch have written a resolution to start impeachment proceedings against Bucci. Under the resolution, a three-person Michigan House committee will investigate Bucci's conduct and make recommendations that could include articles of impeachment.

Bucci's attorney Fred Gibson declined an interview with Michigan Radio.
