Job Summary:
Michigan Radio is seeking a producer for online and social media. We are searching for a professional social media producer who can oversee and implement Michigan Radio’s social media activities and coordinate Michigan Radio’s online outreach, engagement and promotion work. 

Lead efforts to develop a vibrant social media presence for Michigan Radio’s journalism content across platforms.
Engage Michigan Radio’s audience in a variety of social media channels.
Monitors stories and interviews from Stateside and other Michigan Radio shows, as well as, other providers for news items to use on social media
Coordinates with News editors and Stateside producers on developing stories, aligning social media activities with station activities and journalism agenda.
Develop ideas and projects for social engagement with Michigan Radio’s audience
Inspire station journalists, producers and editors to use social media to develop audience and enhance user participation
Leverage social media platforms for station fundraising.
Develop, maintain and interpret key social media metrics and assess their success against social media’s successes, criteria, and goals.
Responsible for following social media trends and recommending new strategies to maximize social exposure.
Ensures that all materials produced meet Michigan Radio standards and practices, including standards of accuracy, fairness, honesty and impartiality.
Ability and willingness to work varied shifts, including early mornings, nights and/or weekends.
The producer will also play a role in selecting, producing, writing and editing content for Michigan Radio’s website, mobile, broadcast, and social platforms as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent of experience and knowledge; 1-3 years’ experience producing, engaging and maintaining content in social media and other platforms. Previous experience working with social media in a news, information, or similar context required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.  Proficiency with standard spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style necessary.  Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline and handle several projects at once is required.  Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of public radio’s core values. 

Required Qualifications:
This position requires the ability to handle daily content creation while balancing long-term initiatives.  The candidate must be self-motivated, an organized producer and have experience in journalism.  Proficiency with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Tumblr, Pinterest, HTML editors, Photoshop required.  Digital audio and video editing skills are a plus.
