Kalamazoo State Representative Robert Jones Dies

State Representative Robert Jones has died. The cause of his death was not immediately known, but the Kalamazoo Gazette reports he was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. Jones was a former Mayor of Kalamazoo and was running for a state Senate seat being vacated by Republican Tom George. Jones was 66.

Granholm Continues European Trade Trip

Governor Granholm is in Sweden this week as she continues what is likely her last overseas trade trip as Governor. As the Michigan Public Radio Network's Rick Pluta reports, this is the Governor's 11th trip to Europe and Asia in search of jobs. Granholm was in France last week. She returns home on Thursday.

Camp is Fundraising Champ

Friday was the deadline for candidates running for Congressional office to file their quarterly fundraising reports. It appears that 4th District Republican Congressman Dave Camp has raised the most out of all of the state's Congressional candidates. Camp has raised $2.6 million in his bid for reelection.

UAW President Urges Votes for Democrats

Bob King, President of the United Auto Workers Union, spent part of the weekend urging UAW members to vote Democratic on Election Day. King told a crowd of about 400 in Warren, MI that it was Democrats who supported bailing out the auto industry. As Tracy Samilton reports, King said, "the UAW plans a big membership drive after the election - and getting Democrats supportive of the drive in office will be crucial."
