Organizers of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit have announced a new seven-year contract with Cobo Center, where the show has been for 53 years.
But with the show moving to June, in 2020, there will be opportunities for events and exhibits outdoors, in addition to inside Cobo Center, for the first time.
No longer will journalists, analysts, auto professionals, and the public have to brave icestorms and bitter cold to see the show -- which has been losing some big reveals in recent years to the LA Auto Show and the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
It's hoped the change to summer will help Detroit get some of those reveals back -- along with participation from some of the automakers who have shunned exhibiting at the show in recent years, including Volvo, Mazda, BMW, and Mercedes Benz.
