New App warns of tornado approach

Red Cross

The American Red Cross has launched a new app for I-phones and Android phones that could be life-saving.

The app sends out a piercing siren-inspired

alert when a tornado warning has been issued.  The app also sends an alert for severe thunderstorms and flood warnings.

Tim Lipan is Executive Director of the Muskegon Red Cross.   He says the severe weather season is  just around the corner, and Michigan has its fair share of tornados.

Frankly, most of those kind of weather things do happen in the evening, and if you're not close to your t.v. or your radio, you may not know, well now everywhere you go, you'll get notice of a tornado or severe thunderstorm or even flood warnings with this app.

The app is "Tornado by American Red Cross," and it's free.

The app provides tornado history, helps people prepare for big storms, and can send out a global "I'm fine" message to loved ones.
