Now that the city of Detroit has put bankruptcy in the rear-view mirror, it is able to start tackling its deepest problems.
One of those is getting all of the agencies that help the homeless on the same page and working to help homeless people in the city’s neighborhoods as well as downtown.
"What's new about this effort is that we are putting together a plan to end homelessness and we are all working together. So, that's everyone from the service provider community, to our state and federal partners, as well as the city of Detroit who of course is driving the initiative," said Tasha Gray, executive director of The Homeless Action Network of Detroit, or HAND.
"We haven't had a lot of commitment in the past from the city of Detroit, and the mayor himself is very interested in this," she said.
Gray joined us to talk about the new coordinated effort by the city to end homelessness.
