Soggy. Drenched. Waterlogged. That sums up the final weekend of May 2015.
It rained intermittently throughout Michigan Saturday, and sometimes the skies opened and it poured.
Parts of Kalamazoo County saw nearly three inches of rain; an inch or more fell through many other areas of the state.
Flood watches and advisories remain in effect through today, Sunday, for mid and southeast Michigan. There’s a flood warning for the lower Rouge River in Inkster and Dearborn.
Even though it may seem safe, weather and police officials offer this reminder: Don’t drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway. You never know what’s underneath – like sinkholes or washouts.
Not that it’s a good beach day, but the National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement from St. Joseph to Manistee on Lake Michigan because of high waves and dangerous swimming conditions, including rip currents.
We’re expecting more rain today – heavy at times, with one to two inches possible primarily in mid and southeast Michigan, but the system will begin to move out this afternoon. Today's highs will be in the mid 50s to near 60. Sunshine is expected to return in abundance on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid 70s.
