Political roundup: Legislature back to business, but don’t expect much before Election Day

Sep 2, 2016

The state Legislature gets back to business next week after its 12-week summer break.

Ken Sikkema and Susan Demas joined us today to talk about what we should expect to see from the Legislature in the remaining months of 2016.

It's an election year, which Sikkema and Demas agree lends some uncertainty to the legislative agenda in the coming months. However that shakes out, they told us we probably won't see much action until after the November election.

"It's really going to be this late November, early December lame duck time when anything major gets done," Sikkema said, "and there might be some big things, like energy policy, some criminal justice reform."

Demas added that the Legislature's agenda during that lame duck period will be "heavily dependent on what happens on November 8."
