Up to 80,000 people are expected to head to Lansing Friday night for the annual Silver Bells event, which includes a parade and lighting of the state Christmas tree on the Capitol grounds.

But Friday also marks the one-week anniversary of the Paris terrorist attack that killed 129 people. The day before, more than 40 people were killed in twin terrorist bombings in Beirut. One person from Dearborn died in the Beirut bombings.

Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski refuses to discuss specifics of security for Silver Bells.

But he says the department has a “comprehensive operational plan” and his officers will be highly visible during the event.
