The state Board of Education is expected to pick a new superintendent soon. The board narrowed the list of finalists to three today.
Bill DiSessa, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Education, says the finalists will be interviewed next Wednesday, and the Board will make the final choice after that meeting.
The three finalists are:
Vickie Markavitch, superintendent of Oakland Schools in Waterford.
Scott Munzel, superintendent of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District in Ann Arbor.
Brian Whiston, superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools.
The new superintendent will succeed Mike Flanagan who is retiring at the end of June.
DeSessa says it will be a big change because Flanagan has held the job for ten years. "He's the longest-serving (state) superintendent in the nation."
