The state Senate Judiciary committee will consider a bill tomorrow that would make it easier for criminals to have part of their records expunged.
House Bill 4186 would allow people convicted of a single felony or a couple of misdemeanors to apply to have them removed from their record.
There are some convictions that could not be removed, including child abuse, acts of terrorism and human trafficking. Though victims of human trafficking could apply to have certain convictions removed from their criminal record.
This month, the bill cleared the state Housewithout a single dissenting vote.
The bill’s House sponsor says changing the law will help some people get a second chance.
The bill itself won’t get a second chance. It must pass the state senate this week or it dies.
