Stateside for Monday, June 15, 2015

Today on Stateside:

- We're seeing the first West Nile virus activity in Michigan. Dr. Eden Wells, chief medical executive for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services tells us what we can do to protect ourselves from the virus.

- Ann Arbor City Councilman Stephen Kunselman thinks he has a way to help homeless people in his city.
The tiny house concept is gaining support around the country as a way for communities to provide affordable housing.

- The bee population in Michigan is changing. With it being National Pollinator Week, we begin our series "The Business of Bees" today with Michael Hansen, the state apiarist. We might also call him Michigan's Bee Czar.

- Carefully curated self-images from the late 19th century are rare. So when the University of Michigan recently discovered it had a pair of photo albums from the same African-American family, it turned into a tremendous opportunity to take 21st century students back in time.

- There's no shortage of conversation in this state about the need to help people who are on the margins of society. But Logan Williams, a sociology professor at MSU, is challenging us to look to those who are living outside society's mainstream and seek out their ideas and solutions to the problems we all face.

- What is an algorithm? Christian Sandvig reviews Facebook's own study about how and why we click on hard news stories.
