Stateside for Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015

Today on Stateside:

  • One of the biggest questions about the Flint water crisis centers on corrosion control. Federal rules dictate that communities have measures in place to control corrosion, but it's unclear whether those measures were properly applied.

  • The Detroit civil unrest that began on July 23, 1967, was one of the most challenging and difficult events in Michigan history. In honor of its fast-approaching 50th anniversary, the Detroit Historical Society is collecting oral histories from the summer of '67.

  • Retired FBI agent Greg Stejskal was in charge of the Ann Arbor FBI office in 1998 when he found himself investigating a missing meteorite.

  • Law professor Michele Deitch tells us that correctional facilities can and should do more to protect the health and rights of  inmates.

  • In light of the largest refugee crisis since World War II, Secretary of State John Kerry recently pledged the U.S. will accept 100,000 refugees a year by 2017. Many of those refugees may head to Michigan, home to one of the largest Arab communities outside the Arab world.
Stateside is produced daily by a dedicated group of producers and production assistants. Listen daily, on-air, at 3 and 8 p.m., or subscribe to the daily podcast wherever you like to listen.
