Stateside for Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Today on Stateside:

  • Lansing Democrats have introduced Senate Bill 512, dubbed the “yes means yes” bill, suggesting that only a sober “yes” should count as consent to sex. Democratic State Sen. Curtis Hertel Jr., co-sponsor of the bill, joins us today.

  • Detroit band JR.JR., formerly known as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., is out with a new self-titled album. Members Daniel Zott and Joshua Epstein sit down with us to talk about the name change, their new music, and life as recording artists in Detroit.

  • Ann Arbor-based writer Robert James Russell is out with his new novel, Mesilla. He talks with us today about his love for Westerns and the genre’s connection to the human experience.

  • The National Assessment of Educational Progress has placed Michigan in the bottom third of all states in fourth grade reading, fourth grade math and eighth grade math. Jenniffer Guerra tells us what it will take to make Michigan a Top 10 education state.

  • State School Superintendent Brian Whiston talks with us about the NAEP and his goal to improve the quality of education in Michigan.
Stateside is produced daily by a dedicated group of producers and production assistants. Listen daily, on-air, at 3 and 8 p.m., or subscribe to the daily podcast wherever you like to listen.
