University of Michigan to pay $15K to fired gymnastics coach

The University of Michigan will pay $15,000 to women’s gymnastics consultant Rhonda Faehn. Faehn was fired by the University three days after being hired.

She was formerly a senior Vice President at USA Gymnastics. Survivors of Larry Nassar criticized Faehn for what they call an inadequate response to reports of sexual abuse while at USA Gymnastics.

Paul Brown is a regent for the University of Michigan. He says U of M gymnasts and coaching staff supported the hire.

Brown says the University did a background check before Faehn was hired. “The background check missed the most important facts which is how these survivors felt about her role in the Nassar tragedy. Which ultimately was all that should have mattered.”

Going forward, Brown says, “Exceptional measures have to be taken ... and the administration, realizes that.”

Ben Blevins is the Director of Athletic Communications for U of M. He says, “Faehn's contract called for her to earn $15,000 per month. Per the agreement U-M maintained the right to end the consulting agreement on 30 days' notice. As such, Ms. Faehn will be due her stated compensation for the month.”
