Bill Clinton to headline fundraiser in Michigan

DETROIT – Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Michigan Democrats next month.

The Michigan Democratic Party announced Sunday that Clinton will speak at the annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner, which is scheduled for April 26 at Cobo Center in Detroit.

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Lon Johnson says in a statement that Clinton's appearance will be a boost to the party's efforts in the state this year.

Past speakers at the Michigan dinner include Vice President Joe Biden and former presidential contenders John Edwards and John Kerry.

Bill Clinton backs Michigan's Proposal 3

Former President Bill Clinton has endorsed Michigan's Proposal 3, the amendment that would require 25 percent of the state’s electricity to come from wind, solar, biomass or hydropower by 2025.

The proposed amendment has drawn national attention as it would be the first to mandate a renewable portfolio standard in a state constitution.

Tonight brings the emotional high point of the Democratic National Convention - the speech from President Barack Obama.

All week long, Michigan Radio's Lester Graham has been in North Carolina. He's been covering the convention and the Michigan delegation.

Governor Snyder talked about Republican hopes of turning Michigan to a red state. But the  Democrats in Charlotte will likely have something to say about that.

Graham tells us the delegates in Charlotte are optimistic, but they know they have some work to do to get people to the polls in November.
