Michigan authorities are closely watching mysterious dog illness outbreak in Ohio

Officials in Michigan are paying close attention to a mysterious outbreak that's killing dogs in Ohio.

During the past month, more than a half dozen dogs in the Akron and Cincinnati areas have been sickened by a mysterious illness.  About half have died, some only about 48 hours after first showing symptoms, which include severe diarrhea and vomiting.

When we think about food grown in Michigan, many people might assume that Michiganders are the ones who are consuming it.

It turns out we aren't the only ones eating our state's crops.

Michigan is number 17 among other states in agricultural product exportation, but that could increase in the next ten years.

Audit of Michigan food and dairy showed insufficient inspections

Michigan dairy facilities were not inspected on time, according to an audit released Thursday.

According to an audit released today, Michigan food and dairy facilities are not being inspected as often as they should be.

The audit of the Food and Dairy Division of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development found that routine inspections were not always conducted.
