Michigan State University’s Eli and Edyth Broad Art Museum is hard to miss.

The steel structure looks like some kind of strange spaceship among the traditional ivory-covered brick buildings around it.

November 10 marks the museum’s third birthday.

In his story for Lansing City Pulse, Larry Cosentino spells out the reasons the Broad is at a crucial time in its young history.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Eli Broad  is writing another big check at Michigan State University.

Broad and wife Edythe are giving $25 million to Michigan State's College of Business, which bears the Broad name. The donation increases their total giving to MSU to nearly $100 million.

The latest gift was announced Friday. MSU President Lou Anna Simon says it's "extraordinary and will have a lasting impact."

LOS ANGELES (AP) - For years Eli Broad has said he wants to make his vast, collection of contemporary art accessible to the largest number of people possible.

What better way to do that, the billionaire philanthropist said Tuesday, than to make admission free to the $140 million museum he's building in downtown Los Angeles.

When it opens next year, Broad said during a hard-hat tour of the half-completed building, people will be able to walk in and view works by Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha and scores of others without paying a cent.
