White supremacist Richard Spencer will not speak on the University of Michigan campus before the end of the traditional academic year on April 28, according to a statement released Friday.

University officials report that, in their latest communication, Spencer’s representatives suggested looking at later dates.

U-M President Mark Schlissel maintains Spencer’s ability to speak on campus is contingent on the provision of public safety.

Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon is facing mounting pressure to resign over how the university handled complaints against former sports Dr. Larry Nassar. The full leadership of the state Legislature, MSU's student newspaper and MSU's student government have all called for her resignation. However, it doesn't look like Simon is going anywhere at the moment.

This Week in Review, Weekend Edition host Rebecca Kruth and senior news analyst Jack Lessenberry talk about what could be keeping Simon from stepping down.

Richard Spencer, leader of the white supremacist National Policy Institute, will be allowed to speak at Michigan State University after all.

Spencer submitted a request to speak at MSU last summer, which the university initially agreed to. But after the request went public, the public outrage lead Michigan State to reverse its decision.

I have never been more proud of the University of Michigan than I am today, because it showed last night that it believes that our Constitution is stronger than our enemies.

In a rare public meeting, the regents voted not to forbid Richard Spencer, a man who is essentially a Nazi, from speaking on campus. Trustee Mark Bernstein was the most eloquent in explaining why. “The only thing worse than Richard Spencer being on our campus is stopping him from being on campus,” he said. Bernstein knew that if the university failed to live up to America’s bedrock values of free speech and free expression, it would play right into Spencer’s hands.

According to a report by Buzzfeed, in 2015 U.S. Representative John Conyers settled a claim made by a female employee in his office who said she was fired because she resisted Conyers' sexual advances. Conyers said he "vehemently" denies the allegations.

Senior news analyst Jack Lessenberry joins Michigan Radio's Morning Edition host Doug Tribou to discuss the allegations and what they mean for Conyers' legacy.

The University of Michigan is negotiating with white supremacist Richard Spencer on his demand to speak on campus.

U of M President Mark Schlissel says Spencer's views are abhorrent. Spencer thinks whites should pursue what he calls a "peaceful ethnic cleansing" to remove minorities from the U.S.

"However, as a public university, the law and our commitment to free speech forbid us from declining a speaker based on the presumed content of speech," Schlissel told a jeering and angry crowd of students at a hastily-called regents meeting Tuesday night.

Michigan State University has denied a request from the National Policy Institute to rent space on campus in September.

NPI is headed by Richard Spencer, a well-known white supremacist who self-identifies as a white nationalist.

In a statement, MSU said:
