Flint City Councilman, Josh Freeman, has resigned.
Freeman, who was first elected in 2004 and represents the 4th Ward, says he's fed up with the atmosphere at council meetings.
“It's circus-like at most meetings,” says Freeman. “We have members that are being arrested and audience members that are drowning out the folks that are there honestly trying to get information.”
As for his eight fellow council members, Freeman says, “It's all, 'How can I one-up one of my colleagues?' So, it just gets old after a while.”
Freeman says he’s most proud of his part in the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline deal, which is intended to bring water from Lake Huron to Flint and other communities.
Freeman will be moving to nearby Davison to join his family. He says his wife and four children moved there in 2010 because the schools are better.
Freeman’s eldest child is a junior in high school, his twin daughters are in 6th grade and his son is in 3rd grade.
“They needed a full-time dad, not a part-time dad,” Freeman says.
Freeman’s resignation is effective 11:59pm on Thursday, December 31. His 4-year term was set to end in November 2017.
