After days of protest, there are signs of progress in many parts of Michigan today.

Kent County law enforcement leaders, including Grand Rapids police chief Eric Payne, joined protesters in Grand Rapids Wednesday afternoon, kneeling and chanting “I can’t breathe.”

Those were the last words of George Floyd, a black man in Minneapolis who died as a white officer held a knee on his neck.

Floyd’s death ignited a national movement protesting police brutality.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday her support for a series of policing reform policies including enhanced training.
