Thousands of people lined the streets in Dearborn for that city’s 91st annual Memorial Day parade.

Further north in Flint, a much smaller observance of the holiday took place.

Joe Mishler is on the Memorial Park committee. He says there are plans to add new memorials to the Iraq and Afghan wars, as well as the names of more than a thousand Civil War veterans to the park.

“Eleven hundred to to 1170 names currently (are on plaques at the memorial),” says Mishler, “and if we added the civil war you’d be looking at another 1100.”

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
