- Everyone says a dog is a man’s best friend. The Refurbished Pets of southern Michigan is a program that works to save shelter dogs from being euthanized by putting them with trainers. These trainers also happen to be prisoners. The RPSM’s Correctional Companion Program places dogs with specially trained prison inmates and Martin Daughenbaugh was one of those inmates.
