Changes are coming to what you hear on Michigan Radio later this month.

Host Changes

Jennifer White, Michigan Radio’s All Things Considered  host, has announced that she will be leaving the station later this month.

Jenn has been local host of Michigan Radio's afternoon news magazine weekdays from 4:00-6:30 p.m. since September 2010. She has also led community-engagement discussions for the station’s State of Opportunity project, and moderated community discussions, political forums, and gubernatorial and mayoral debates for Michigan Radio.

Jennifer is moving to Chicago, where she has accepted a position as on-air anchor/host at WBEZ, Chicago Public Radio.

“The last 16 years with this organization have been incredible and I'll truly miss my colleagues and the smart, engaged, and supportive Michigan Radio listeners,” said Jennifer White.

“This new opportunity really presents the best of all worlds for me. I get to embrace this new challenge in Chicago while staying within the public radio family.”

Jennifer’s final day on the air at Michigan Radio will be Friday, Jan. 15.

Christina Shockley becomes Michigan Radio's All Things Considered host.

As part of this transition, Michigan Radio’s host of Morning Edition, Christina Shockley, will become the new host of All Things Considered.

While we undergo a search for a permanent Morning Edition host, Emily Fox will take on Christina’s early-morning hosting duties. Morning Edition airs weekdays from 5-9 a.m.

Program Changes

The station will also be introducing a revised Friday and weekend on-air schedule, beginning Jan. 23. This includes the expansion of a popular local show and the addition of two new offerings.

Stateside
(Weekdays 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.)

Stateside, Michigan Radio’s award-winning local talk and interview show will be expanding to five days a week with the addition of a Friday broadcast.

This will enable the station to expand its coverage of Michigan news, culture, and lifestyle stories, and provide a consistent Monday-Friday schedule.

This also allows Michigan Radio to offer listeners content that is more responsive to news stories taking place throughout the full week.

Cynthia Canty continues to host the program Monday-Thursday. The Friday broadcast will be hosted by veteran Michigan Radio reporter Lester Graham and will begin on Jan. 29.

Reveal
(Sunday, 8 p.m.)

Reveal is the Peabody Award-winning investigative journalism program produced by The Center for Investigative Reporting.

Reveal presents original work from CIR's team along with various partners, including stations, websites, journalism centers, and reporters from around the world.

Michigan Radio has broadcast monthly Reveal specials for several years, but the show is now expanding to a weekly series. Recent episodes have examined issues such as food safety, abuse and neglect of people with disabilities at specialty rehab centers, and tensions between police and the communities they serve.

New Yorker Radio Hour
(Sunday, 9 p.m.)

The New Yorker Radio Hour is a weekly program presented by the magazine’s editor, David Remnick, and produced by WNYC Studios and The New Yorker.

Each episode features a diverse mix of interviews, profiles, storytelling, and an occasional burst of humor inspired by the magazine, and shaped by its writers, artists, and editors. The show reflects the rich possibilities of audio storytelling and conversation.

Other program changes

In addition to these new shows, the station will also be adjusting the times of several other programs.

Here & Now will be heard Mon-Fri from 1-3 p.m.

Science Friday will move to Sundays at 2 p.m.

NPR’s popular news quiz show Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me will now be heard at 10 a.m. Saturday (repeat Sunday at 4 p.m).

The comedy trivia show Ask Me Another will move to Saturdays at 11 a.m., with TED Radio Hour filling that show’s former time slot at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Radiolab will also change to a more consistent time slot and will be heard on Saturdays and Sunday at 10 p.m.

These program changes mean that WireTap and The Splendid Table will leave Michigan Radio’s schedule.

The weekend changes noted will take effect beginning Saturday, Jan. 23.  You can view Michigan Radio’s updated program schedule here. More details on the program changes can be found here.
